When I first found out I was pregnant in 2015, I was attending nursing school in Puerto Rico. At the time, my husband was in Florida, where our home is, so I waited to tell my him. It wasn’t until he visited me that I did.
We have a large family and we are all very close, however we did not tell them right away. We wanted to confirm our pregnancy with an ultrasound, before we had told anyone. Once we did, we discussed ways in which we would announce. We wanted to make the announcement a special one, and we finally landed on an idea we saw on Etsy. We purchased adorable boxes and once you opened them, a little nest with a bird saying, “A little birdie told me you guys are going to be grandparents” was unveiled.
For my second pregnancy, I told my husband on Valentine’s Day with an oversized card. Then we had our first child, Sanibel, wear a shirt saying she can’t wait for her little sister to be born. Some family members read the shirt and immediately knew we were pregnant and were overjoyed, while other family members just weren’t making the connection. So, throughout our announcement we had to keep dropping hints and pointing them to read her shirt. It’s always nice to see family’s reactions and it made for a good laugh and several happy cries.
