Coronavirus, giant hornets, heat waves…2020 has been quite the year (and we’re just skimming the surface).
And, now fires – with the most recent fire causing devastation and burning more than 10,000 acres (and counting) in Southern California’s San Bernardino County.
The cause – we are sad to say – a gender reveal party.
And, this is not the first time it has happened.
After six months in quarantine, it is understandable that we are all trying to find a little bit of normalcy in our lives and unique ways to celebrate happy milestones (baby showers, weddings, anniversaries, and more). And, that’s okay. Life should be celebrated and there are many unforgettable and special ways to do so. However, it is important to do so without harming others or the communities in which we live.
As the celebrations continue, we want to create awareness about the ways in which others can plan a safe and special celebration:
- Avoid explosives of any kind – they are unnecessary and as history has shown, can cause massive devastation (especially in areas with highly flammable materials), causing irreversible damage to our communities.
- Practice social distancing – during these uncertain times, it is best to follow CDC guidelines, when applicable, to keep you and your loved ones safe and healthy.
- Be kind to animals – announcing a pregnancy with a bandana on your pup or cat is adorable. But involving wildlife, like alligators in an unsafe way can cause harm to you, your loved ones and/or wildlife. Even balloons can harm turtles and other marine life. So, it is important to be mindful of how you use (and dispose of) your party materials.
- Be environmentally conscious – we have one world, which we all share. We all play a role in keeping it clean and protected – for our children and future generations to come.
- Set a good example for others – be conscious of your environment and those around you when planning a gender reveal party. This is the best way to keep friends and family safe and set a good example for others.
How She Told Him is excited to share in your joy and provide support during these times. Whether you are looking for ideas when creating your baby registry or other ways to plan a safe event to celebrate your baby on the way, we want to help make these special moment all the more memorable!
